Christmas Recap

Our Christmas this year was filled with so much joy and I took tons of pictures to try and capture every moment of it. This is just a small taste of our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We spent time with family, ate way too much food, received way too many presents and just tried to soak it all in.

Merry Christmas Eve

Our little family is sending our love out to all of you! Although this isn't our first holiday season as a family of three, it's been such a special one since Sophie is aware of all the festivity around her this year. I hope you all have a special day together with your family and friends tomorrow. Merry Christmas Eve!

Tamales

Somebody got her first taste of Christmas tamales and was a happy little girl!

Winter Coat

There's not much to say. Sophie's got an awesome little camel pea coat and I just had to post a picture (or three) of it. We are very busy over here getting ready for Christmas, wrapping presents, baking and dancing to Christmas carols. I'm happy to report that Wham's version of Last Christmas is one of her favorites as well as most of the Elf soundtrack.

The Mailbox Routine

Often, the highlight of Sophie's afternoon is heading down to the mailbox. I can't lie, it's one of my favorite activities too. Especially this time of year when we are receiving so many great Christmas cards from friends, packages, and magazines, not just a bunch of junk mail. It goes a little something like this...

I ask Sophie if she'd like to go get the mail. She nods emphatically and smiles and runs to find her shoes. We bundle up, grab the keys, which she insists on carrying and head out the door.

The first hurdle is the front step. She usually reaches up for my hand, but since I was ahead of her to take a photo this time, she decided the safest approach was to sit on her bottom and scoot off that front step.

Next we head down the walk. She usually insists on walking right across the grass. No need to stick to the sidewalk.

When we get out to the main sidewalk, we pause and check things out. Any friends outside today? Any  planes or birds flying by? Dogs walking by? No, ok, let's keep going.

We get a little distracted along the way. Checking things out, taking a break and sitting down.

Sometimes Nacho, the neighborhood cat, joins us for the walk.

When we get to the mailbox, Sophie likes to try and open it herself.

After some help from Mom, Sophie likes to choose which ones she will carry back by herself.

We head back down the sidewalk, stopping for all the same distractions on our way home.

The Family Shot

When we had Sophie's one year pictures taken, we were excited to get a few family shots in as well. Since we've become a family of three, it's a pretty rare occasion to have all three of us in a photo. Chase or I tend to play the photographer most of the time. I love the way these turned out and will treasure them as a way to look back at what our little family looked like at this moment in time.

Big Girl Photos

These photos were taken shortly after Sophie's first birthday and we used some of them for our Christmas card. Although she was still fighting off the end of a cold, the photographer was very patient with her and caught some smiles and giggles at the end of our session.

Fourteen Months is Awesome

Sophie is fourteen months old today and so much fun. She is full of personality, funny noises, silly dances, crazy hairdos and has lots of love to share. She loves holding hands and giving kisses, but insists on holding forks and spoons by herself. She is still a snuggly girl but has a fierce independent streak. Her favorite things to do right now are climbing (stairs especially, but couches, slides and chairs will do), walking to the mailbox (while holding the keys) and running away from you while you chase her.

Here Comes Santa Claus

Chase and I took Sophie to a Christmas brunch this weekend, thinking it would be a nice, non-threatening way to introduce Sophie to Santa. She wasn't thrilled to meet him but let him stand next to her while Chase held her. Unfortunately, I'm still learning to use my new camera lens that does not have auto focus and the picture came out blurry! Then I handed my camera over to the official cameraman (at his suggestion) so he could get a picture of all of us and his turned out even worse!

On the upside, Sophie enjoyed the rest of the brunch including the decorations, the big windows that were just her height and looked out over the golf course and the blueberry scones.

This face says "Don't even thinking of touching my scone."
