What is This?

It's prickly, it's itchy, what is this stuff? We plopped Sophie directly on the grass yesterday to see what she thought of it. At first she held very still and tried to keep her feet up. Then as she warmed up to the idea, she flipped over and it freaked her out again. Eventually she realized it gave her good traction for crawling.
